Schiller Elite Frankfurt Ophicleide Key of C
The Schiller ophicleide in C is the ultimate hidden gem. Not just because it’s affordably priced, far below other comparable modern instruments, but because it actually represents a later, more advanced period of development for the instrument. The Schiller is based on a Courtois from 1905, and its keys are designed with rod and post action very similar to a modern saxophone. Many of the idiosyncrasies of the instrument had been addressed by the time this ophicleide was originally produced, and what results is probably the best non-period ophicleide on the market, according to one leading performer/instructor. While I’d love to be able to find a Schiller in Bb, the C is nevertheless a really fine example of a fascinating historical instrument. I’m very pleased with this horn.
