XR Travel Handle

The extension handle is one of the most important features of the Travelmate XR. This handle allows your accordion to be balanced on the case wheels and easily rolled on a multitude of surfaces. The XR Travel Handle is box-framed aluminum for rigidity and strength. It contains self-lubricating springs and polymer components that allow the handle trouble-free operation for many years.

The handle has three usable extension heights of 32”, 37.5” and 40.5” to give a wide range of people a comfortable travel experience.

HD (High Density) Rubber Wheels

Excalibur has upgraded the wheels on the Travelmate XR to allow for a smoother ride on multiple surfaces. The High Density rubber compound absorbs vibration while the wider width enables more traction on smooth floors. The wheel wells are enlarged to allow dirt and gravel to simply pass through instead of jamming the wheels leading to skidding and frustration. The HD compound is still soft enough not to mark sensitive flooring even when the case is fully loaded.

The Travelmate XR now locates the wheels on the corners of the case and extends them 3/4” out of the back. This placement gives the case maximum stability when wheeling your accordion at a fast pace and allows for easy riding over bumps, curbs and even up stairs.

Lamellar Microlayer Injection-Molded Shell

Excalibur uses Lamellar Microlayer Injection-Molded Shell on the Travelmate XR. This processes of injection-molding uses multiple resin strands in distinct micro-layers. This results in a shell that is dimensionally stable with a superior gas and water barrier. It also has allowed our shell colors to reach new depths of clarity. The shells are secured together using lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum corners and ribs.

SuperPad Internal Structure

Inside the Travelmate XR is the redesigned interior. The lining is a quadruple-stitched looped fabric that is easy to clean and very soft. Nine different adjustable nylon-wrapped dense foam SuperPads use double-hooked backing for attachment to the interior lining. This system allows for thousands of different combinations of adjustments to snugly fit any accordion from a small 24 Bass to a large 120 Bass and everything in between.

Quad-Fold Internal Cover

Accordions are known for their awkward weight distribution. The Quad-Fold Internal Cover utilizes four soft-nylon pads attached to each side of the case to fold over your accordion and strap it in securely. These pads were specifically designed to hold the accordions securely into the SuperPads. Each pad has a stitched border for durability and utilizes a one inch polymer attachment runner to evenly distribute tension on the pad. The runner is also used to secure the pad via one inch square bolted clips.

The two outer covers on the top and bottom of the interior boast adjustable and locking straps that are double-stitched into the length of the pads. These straps allow the accordion to be locked into the SuperPad Structure. The weight of the accordion is then distributed evenly through the vertical center of the case and wheel pivot point. Shock distribution and jolts from the road are then passed around the accordion and not through it.

SureLock Locking Mechanism

The SureLock Locking Mechanism uses a zinc-plated barrel lock and double-sided key. The two included keys have over-sized plastic housing for handling while wearing gloves. The locking indicator (blue for unlocked, red for locked) gives visual indication of the lock’s state. Simply glance at the lock to keep your mind at ease regarding your accordion’s security.

Automatic Carrying Handle

The Automatic Carrying Handle on the Travelmate XR is spring loaded and folds down automatically after use. This prevents unnecessary noise from a loose handle while wheeling the Travelmate XR over rough terrain.

The I.D. System included with the Travelmate XR is perfect for customizing your case. Showcase your band’s name or use it for identification when traveling at the airports.
