Pearl River Model EU122 Classic Studio Upright Piano

Pearl River History
Established in 1956 in Guangzhou, China, Pearl River Piano Group has become the largest piano manufacturer in the world, with a production of over 125,000 pianos annually by more than 4,000 workers. Our company builds the Pearl River, Ritmüller, and Kayserburg brands, as well as a number of pianos for OEM contracts. Pearl River is the best-selling piano brand in China, and is exported to more than 100 countries. After a successful IPO in 2012, our formerly government-owned company completed construction of a new, state-of-the-art, 1.2-million-sq.-ft. factory, to which we will transition over the next five years. Our factory combines traditional craftsmanship with advanced CNC digital machinery, and complies with European high-level technology and process standards.

In recent years, Pearl River has revised and streamlined its model line with the assistance of European and American piano-design consultants. Many new models have been introduced, while older models have been reviewed and modified. Currently, Pearl River verticals begin with the 42½″ console model UP108 in continental style (no legs), and continues with a new for 2015 43″ console model EU111 in several traditional American furniture styles. They continue with a series of studio models, including the 45″ model UP115M5 in a traditional institutional style (legs with toe blocks), and the 45″ model UP115E in a school-friendly institutional style with special casters and a full-length music desk. Finally, there are the upright models, including a new for 2015 46½″ model EU118, the relatively new 48″ model EU122 and the new 51½″ model EU-131 concert upright.

Pearl River grands come in six sizes, from 4′ 11″ to 9′, and have been redesigned over the last two years to include features such as vertically laminated bridges with solid maple caps, lighter touch weights, German hammer felt, and new scale designs.

Our Company Name Is Our Brand
Pearl River is the World’s Best-Selling Piano, sold in over 100 countries. The Pearl River name has become a symbol of quality in the music industry, and a supplier of instruments to many retailers and even other manufacturers, who depend on us for reliable, high quality instruments!

• More than 50 years of craftsmanship
• The world’s largest, state-of-the-art factory
• Affordably-priced with features of expensive pianos
• Internationally certified for quality and environmental standards
• Recommended world-wide by teachers, performers and technicians

Total Control Over Manufacturing
While many pianos are now made in facilities foreign to their headquarters, Pearl River has for our entire history controlled every step of the manufacturing process, from the selection of woods, to the crafting of actions, soundboards, wet sand-cast plates, and every other integral part of the piano. This control ensures a consistently high quality piano true to the exact scale-design.

We Use High Quality, Seasoned Hardwoods
While others often use less costly woods “select hardwoods” in their “consumer grade” pianos, Pearl River uses only the best woods for each application in every piano we make.

Our Grand Piano rims are made from Walnut, a dense hardwood that allows for our lower tension scale design. Lower tension scale design results in a warmer, richer tone with longer sustain, and is used in the world’s finest pianos. Our bridges and pin-blocks are crafted from Rock Maple, and our Lothar Thomma tapered soundboards are created from close grained, high quality northern Spruce (100%). The use of high quality woods is critical when making high quality musical instruments.

Acclimatized for Worldwide Markets
Pearl River takes pride in using state-of-the-art kilns to dry our woods. However, there is much more to “seasoning” woods than that. Both before and after the kiln drying, woods are expertly cured to specific moisture contents, which reduces the natural tendency for wood to swell and contract with humidity fluctuation. With over 8,000 moving parts, a piano’s woods must be “seasoned” to ensure reliability wherever the piano ends up living!

Wet Sand Cast Plates
The plate is a foundation of a piano, the strength that supports the incredible tension placed on the instrument by its strings. Pearl River uses high-quality “pig iron” which is melted in foundries and poured in wet sand molds. Some manufacturers only use this method in their most expensive models. We use this method for every piano we make. Wet Sand Cast plates provide more mass for strength, and do not produce undesirable harmonic feedback like “vacuum processed” plates. Wet sand cast plates are used in the world’s finest pianos.

Vertically Laminated Maple Bridges
A piano’s bridge is vital to the tone of a good piano. The bridge transfers sound from the strings to the soundboard, and it is crowned to match the crown of the soundboard. The convex crown of the soundboard is what produces tone, so the integrity of the bridge will affect the longevity of a piano’s tone. Our bridges are vertically laminated layers of maple, and are capped with solid maple wood. Vertically laminated bridges provide superior strength and durability, and are found on the world’s finest pianos.

Tapered Soundboards
The soundboard of a piano is its voice. The careful selection of wood and the design of each piano’s soundboard are crucial in creating a piano’s tone. Pearl River’s 100% close-grained spruce soundboards are tapered, allowing improved flexibility. The freedom of movement from our tapered soundboards provides for greater dynamic range and improved sustain.

Cut-Thread Tuning Pins
Pearl River pianos use “cut-thread” tuning pins, a superior method to “stamping” the thread as some manufacturers do. “Cut-thread” tuning pins provide more precision and control to the technician, allowing for a better and longer lasting tuning.

Multi-ply Hard Rock Maple Pinblocks
The quality of a piano’s pinblock will determine its tuning stability. Pearl River employs the best hard “rock maple” wood, arranged in layers of alternating grain directions designed to grip our nickel-plated tuning pins firmly and hold them in place. Our quality pinblocks mean that your piano will stay in tune longer, the importance of which cannot be understated.

Static UV Polyester Finish
Our finish is applied using a patented “Static UV Application” process, which gives our pianos a more durable and fade-resistant topcoat.

German Felt
Quality felt is important when making quality pianos. Pearl River hammers are made with high quality felt from the most respected German felt manufacturers like Wurzenâ„¢, resulting in superior tone and durability. Inferior felt can result in disappointing sound and unpredictable durability over time.
